Vinyl Disc Beads Bracelet Tutorial

Tutorial by Adrianne Surian

This simple DIY bracelet project uses vinyl disc beads to create a simple, but colorful look.  Adrianne says, "I've had my eye on these vinyl disc beads for a while now, trying to decide how to use them.  I was staring at the strands and thinking I liked them just how they are - and with a bit of glue and a couple of tools, I can wear them that way!"

You can vary this design based on the size of the beads and how many strands you prefer.

Suggested Tools & Materials:

It's possible to create this bracelet without re-stringing the vinyl beads - you can keep them on the cotton cord the come on!  For better strength, Adrianne recommends re-stringing them on a beading wire or cord of your choice.  If you're using the pre-strung cotton cord, cut a length LONGER than your needed length (depending on your wrist size, bracelets are usually 6.5-7 inches) because you'll need to enough cord on the ends to tie a knot (you'll need to remove some of the beads at each end).

If you're re-stringing your beads, you can use a crimp bead or a snug knot at the ends of your strands.  You'll be able to get 4-5 lengths from each strand of vinyl beads.  When you tie your knots, be sure to add a drop of glue to secure them.

Once you've secured your bracelet-length strands, add a few drops of glue into one of the end caps, and insert one end of the strand.  Don't rush this step - it can take a minute or so for the glue to dry enough to get a good grip on your beads.  If it's not dry enough and your strands fall out, just add a bit more fresh glue and replace them, being careful not to get any glue on your fingers or the outside of the cap.  Repeat this process on the other end of the strands with your second cap.

The 4-5mm vinyl beads fit 2 strands in the cap, while the 2-3mm size fits 3 strands in the cap.

Once your strands are dry enough to continue working, use pliers to add the clasp, using your jump rings.

These bracelets look great stacked together or worn alone.  With lots of colors to choose from, you can make one to match your own unique style.
