Sea Glass & Pearl Charm Necklace Tutorial
Tutorial by Adrianne Surian
Today I’m sharing a tutorial for a casual DIY necklace that combines pearl and sea glass for a look reminiscent of your summer at the beach (without looking overly nautical). This pale pink charm necklace is a simple design that comes together quickly and works with so many styles! |
Tools and Materials: |
First, you’ll do some basic wire work to create your recycled sea glass charm. While you can of course simply attach a 10mm jump ring to the stick bead, the wire coil offers a little something extra to the design! To make it, cut a 6-inch piece of wire, and coil one side around the tip of your round nosed pliers. |
Next, attach the sea glass charm to the bottom of the heart connector. If at this point, you’re like me, and decide that this sea glass charm needs another beachy element, you can add a pearl charm as well! |
To create the pearl charm stack a 9mm pearl and 7mm bead cap onto a decorative headpin. Bend the wire end of the head pin around your round nose pliers just above the bead cap to form a loop. Then, wrap the wire end in neat coils between the loop you created and the top of the bead cap. To get the right length to the pearl charm so that it matches with the long vertical shape of the sea glass charm and heart element, you will need to connect a few jump rings and/or connectors together. I found that a 2-hole space plus 2 5mm jump rings placed the pearl just below the level of the heart connector. You can adjust this length as you like to suit your style. |
Finally, connect 10mm jump rings to the top of each charm. String these charms onto 30″ of 2mm cable chain and it’s ready for you to wear it to the office or to a weekend party! (Tip: the 30″ chain length slips easily over the head, so attaching a clasp is optional for this project.) |
