What is enameled copper and how is it made? Copper enameling is the art of fusing glass onto copper. It is a very labor-intensive process. After hand cutting, filing and shaping each piece of copper it is cleaned using sandpaper and then powdered enamel (glass) is added. Each piece is then fired in a kiln at approximately 1500-1600° Fahrenheit. Additional layers of enamel may be added to a piece depending on the piece itself; generally, all pendants have enamel added 3-4 times during the process. An interesting aspect to the process is the immediacy of it; because the pendants are able to cool relatively quickly, it allows for spontaneity during the process.
