Beaded Fringe Necklace Tutorial
Tutorial by Kimberlie Kohler
This necklace features beaded links, beaded charms, and hammered wire to create a unique fringe-like statement piece. African Christmas Beads create a colorful and eclectic look, but this design would work well with just about any smaller bead. We suggest trying some glass beads from Indonesia, lightweight resin beads, or even gemstone beads. It's all up to your personal creativity! |

Make each loop into a spiral. Hold the loop in chain nose pliers and wrap around the original loop. |
Kimberlie hammered her wire with a chasing hammer for a textured look. You can achieve a softer look with a nylon or rawhide hammer. |
Cut wire pieces for your beaded charms. For a graduated look, use different lengths. Kimberlie used 1 5" wire, 2 4" wires 8 3" wires. Hammer just the spiral ends. |
Next, add beads to each wire. The longer the wire, the more beads you'll need. Leave the same length of un-beaded space at the end of each wire. |
To add your charms to the main wire first hole the wire in your round nose pliers and begin to make a loop. Straighten the loop so it's directly on top of the wire (similar to the small bend you made on the spirals). Slide this half-formed loop onto the main wire before wrapping around the base of your loop to close it. Be sure to cut off any excess wire. |
Continue to add the rest of your charms. You can finish your project here by adding some chain, leather, ribbon, or a simple beaded cord directly to your main wire and finishing off your necklace. Or you can create some beaded links like Kimberlie did. |
Attach your first beaded link to the end spiral of your main wire. Continue adding links (or chain) until you reach your desired length. Happy Beading! |
