Rune Astrology Information
Runes were one of the earliest writing systems in Northern Europe and were used by cultures from Britain to Scandinavia to Russia. Far beyond simple symbols, runes were considered magical, and those with the ability to read runecraft were regarded as mystical shamans. With runes one could tell fortunes, mark the almanac and record the details of everyday life. Runes were used to mark the passage of time and seasons, which was vital because of the short lived summer in the north. The people of the north were skilled astronomers, creating a system for making the changes of the seasons. The ancient Norse divided the year into 24 half months called seles. To each sele was governed by one of the 24 rune symbols. Those born during that sele were believed to possess the magical properties of the rune they were born under, and it was believed that this rune shaped their personality and their fortunes.

29 June – 13 July
Those born under the rune Feoh (Fehu) are imbued with the fire of creation. They are creative and prodigious, having the ability to carry ideas through to fruition. In business the Feoh person has the Midas touch. They have an uncanny ability to increase their wealth through smart business deals.
14 July – 28 July
Those born under the rune Ur (Uruz) have a dynamic, primal strength that comes from the Ox. The courage to face adversity straight on is one of their gifts. Strength and courage make the Ur person fiercely loyal. The protective qualities of the Ur person make them excellent parents. They will fight for and protect their children with all of their strength.
Thorn – the shield of protection

Those born under the rune Thorn (Thurisaz) attract waves of protective energy into their lives. Thorn is a defensive rune which protects against mental adversaries rather than physical ones. Although the imagery of this rune is that of a thorn tree, the thorns on such a tree may offer protection. The Thorn person creates a protective boundary for themselves and those close to them.

Like the World Ash which supports the earth and the heavens, the As (Ansuz) person has their roots planted firmly in the ground. They are powerful and stable with a firm grasp on reality. But as the tree’s branches reach for the heavens, the As person has a cosmic side that few ever see. They aspire to comprehend the motions of the universe and to understand all of creation.

Those born under the rune Rad (Raidho) portray the symbolism of a wheel. Early symbolism of this rune depicted The Sun Wheel as it passed through the sky, cycling the day from daytime to nighttime. The Rad person understands that action and uncertainty are necessary in beginning a journey, but they are always ready for the challenges which may arise on that journey.

Ken (Kenaz) is a sign of illumination and transformation. It is a deeply spiritual sign, and like its meaning “knowledge”, those born under this sign have a thirst for spiritual understanding and expansion. The Ken person is a synthesis of intellectual excellence and primal creativity. Ken people make excellent teachers because they transfer their quest for illumination to those around them.
28 September – 13 October
Those born in the sign Gufu (Gyfu, Gebo) possess many innate talents, both creative and intellectual. When the Gufu person displays these talents at a young age, they are often labeled prodigies, with a talent given by the gods. The Gufu person must not become complacent with their given abilities and must aspire all their life to refine their raw talent.

The Wyn (Wunjo) person has a personality which makes them fascinating to those around them. They have great social skills and with care can establish strong, lifelong friendships. Hagal (Hagalaz) is called the root rune or the mother rune. From Hagal comes all the other rune patterns. The Hagal person has an analytical mind and a great need for order. This imposed order allows them to juggle many tasks at once, not letting any slip. This ability makes them excellent administrators, able to handle situations which would overwhelm others.

Those born under the sign of Nyd (Naudhiz) represent the want and desire which creates the “need-fire” for a person to obtain what they greatly desire. The Nyd person is exceptionally passionate, and recognizes that their needs must be met by an action or reaction to external events. The Nyd is an independent person and they understand the importance of self-reliance.

Those born under the sign of Is (Isa) often have an individualistic personality which rebels against authority. They have a need to find their own path in life, not simply following the path chosen for them. Those born under the rune Eoh (Eihwaz) have a calm dignified air which others aspire to. Because Eoh is the thirteenth rune, it is often associated with magic. Eoh people have a mystical, serene quality. They often experience periods of synchronicity or “good luck”, where it seems nothing can go wrong.

There is a playfulness to those born under the rune Peorth (Perthro). They are often skilled musicians or storytellers. Those around them are drawn to their exuberant personality and the Peorth person is often the center of attention at parties. Peorth people often have a weakness for gambling and can often be found participating in games of chance.

The rune Elhaz possesses the rugged individualism and raw power of the Elk. Those born under this rune have the same qualities. They forge their own paths in life and meet life on their own terms. Sigel (Sowilo) is more closely related to the luminous Sun than any other rune. Those born under the rune Sigel possess a radiant personality which attracts others to them. Sigel means victory and the Sigel person is a born victor. Their force of will allows them to succeed where others fail. Others often follow in their footsteps.

Man (Mannaz) is the sign of humanity, and like humanity, those born under the rune Man show the full spectrum of emotions and are difficult to pigeonhole. They are the everyday man, who all those around them identify with. They show a remarkable ability to construct and create to improve their environment. They are often cheered for their ability to make victory out of adversity.

Lagu (Laguz) represents a flow, a journey to an inevitable conclusion. Those born under the sign Lagu journey along a path of self discovery and transformation. They are well traveled and have a deep need to experience other cultures. For the Lagu person it is the journey that is important, not the destination.
